Remembrance day

(I’ve tried to translate the Dutch poem above as best I could, but translating poems never comes easy. I have a hard time capturing the essence of the original words.
I do hope you will still like it though….)

Together we are
all frightened people
stumbling over the ruins of our former protest
knowing more than ever
that we know less than before.

Time and time again
the news burns holes into our souls
there are too many dragons
not near enough heroes
no one to tell us what to do

And so,
fear drifts into our endless peace
motionless we are to stand and listen to a silence
that reaches deeper
and swallows us whole
until we reduced to nothing at all.
